Advocacy Days

The Texas Counseling Association sponsors three Legislative Advocacy Days during each Texas Legislative Session. Visiting your elected officials at the State Capitol is a very effective way to influence public policy.

Each Advocacy Day begins at 8:00am with breakfast in the Capitol Cafeteria located on the first floor of the Capitol extension, followed by an orientation. The orientation includes an Advocacy Day Packet that contains resource materials to share with your elected officials as well as updates on bills, committee meetings and other events that will be considered by the Legislature on that particular Advocacy Day. TCA staff remains in the Capitol Cafeteria throughout the day to provide support, additional resource materials and to answer questions.

Online registration will open on January 7, 2013. Please register online so we can be sure to have enough materials available for all attendees.

TCA Advocacy Days:
Tuesday, March 5, 2013
Tuesday, April 9, 2013
Tuesday, May 14, 2013

To find out who represents you, get copies of bills and for other legislative information, visit the
Texas Legislature Online.

An office visit is one of the most effective ways to communicate your interest in an issue or bill and to build a relationship with your legislative representatives. We encourage you to call in advance to schedule an appointment with your Representative and Senator (or their staff) while you are in Austin. If you are unable to confirm an appointment with your elected official, ask to meet with the staff person who handles mental health or education issues, depending on your area of interest.
